Pair of Pied Oystercatchers by

A pencil drawing of a pair of Pied Oystercatchers. These delightful shorebirds are fairly common around the southern coast of Australia. They really do open oysters, and other molluscs, by wedging the shell in wet sand and then using their sturdy bill to open them.

About ColinWilliams

I am an amateur naturalist and artist who has won some awards and done a little teaching. I combine these two interests to portray some of the birds which I see almost daily in and around the estuary on which I am privileged to live – the Shoalhaven estuary on the south coast of New South Wales. I also paint still-lifes and landscapes.
