Royal Spooonbills - my favourite bird. by

I see this wonderful birds most days as I walk my standard poodle ZiZi. The birds seem to know that we mean them no harm and allow us to come quite close. Not so the Australian Curlews who also live on our estuary. I call them “100-metre birds” because that’s about as close as they will ever allow you to approach before the take off with their piping call. I even called my sailing dinghy “Curlew” but they weren’t impressed it seems.

About ColinWilliams

I am an amateur naturalist and artist who has won some awards and done a little teaching. I combine these two interests to portray some of the birds which I see almost daily in and around the estuary on which I am privileged to live – the Shoalhaven estuary on the south coast of New South Wales. I also paint still-lifes and landscapes.
