"Pacific Heron"

This large heron (Ardea pacifica) is common in Australia favouring shallow fresh waters particularly wet paddocks. It doesn’t seem fond of salt or brackish water. The one in this painting shows the neck plumes which are complemented, when in full breeding plumage, with maroon plumes on the back and wings.
