Needing a big favour from Friends Around the world. by Colinizing  Photography with Colin Boyd Shafer

I am currently organizing a project with Burmese Refugees in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
This project is student run (a group of my college students), and started about 2 weeks ago.

You can join the group on facebook. It is called “see the world through our eyes”:
I can’t figure out to provide a working link here but go to facebook and type the above words in. Hope this works.

Basically 20 children are being taught photography, using donated and fundraised cameras. They are 13-17 year olds, and really this project looks promising.

I would love to get some support for these kids from the international photography community and if some of you would be willing to organize an exhibition of their work in your home town, or city that would be amazing. Galleries, restaurants, halls of schools, anywhere.

The cost would be minimal and the impact can be great.

The idea is that these underpriveledged children will learn a new skill, have fun, get creative, and ultimately their pictures will provide them with a sense of accomplishment and hopefully raise money for Burmese Refugees in Malaysia.

Let me know if you can help in any way.

Here is an article I wrote about their situation

Sincerely, Colin

Reminds me a little of the movie/documentry Born into Brothels, I think that took place in India, (same continent, right?) did you see it? Good luck to you with this project, Im sure there is not a photographer alive that saw the Brothels movie that didn’t wish for an opportunity like the one you are planning. * Coy

I have been thinking for quite a while of a similar project with the kids I work with at a Youth Activity Center here in Boca Raton, Florida. We live in a very wealthy area of the country, although the kids I work with are less privlidged than many here.

Your post has me thinking of this project all over again, maybe a cause was all that kept it from happening on the past. Allow me to find out a little more about your project, starting with the facebook link above that does not seem to be working, I would like to follow your success and see if I might be able to find a way to help. * Coy
