The oldest airworthy Spitfire in existence is operated by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. Fittingly, this aircraft saw combat during the Battle of Britain in 1940, serving with 603 (City of Edinburgh) Squadron, which was then based at RAF Hornchurch. The aircraft is currently painted up to represent a Mk Ia called “Blue Peter”, which was the personal mount of 603 Sqn’s CO, Sqn Ldr George Denholm DFC.
The aircraft is seen here touching down on arrival at Kemble Air Day 2008.
wonderful action shot, you can just see the prop going round, great capture of a great plane
Thanks Hilary. The engine is at idle on touchdown so its tricky to get a slow enough shutter speed so that the prop/background is nicely blurred, but not so slow that the whole image risks becoming a blurred mess!

Great capture Colin, my favorite “species” of plane. :D
Great capture Colin.. yet again u have done wonders with ur aircraft photography
I prefer the Hurricane….but I always have. It never gets enough attention. Just like the plain but pretty girl as opposed to the model.
The picture, that’s a good one. Looks like the tyres have just kissed (but no puff of smoke yet). Not quite the text book 3 pointer.
Great capture Colin, pity there are so few left
Excellent Colin – just the right moment – Ted
