Cloth Hall, Ypres
The design of the Cloth Hall in Ypres, Belgium creates an almost abstract design when photographed in wide angle. Tha vapour trail of the airliner high above seems to add to the effect!
I treated the image to a mild application of HDR to emphasise the textures in the stonework.

Many thanks Hilary and Dave. I am not a huge fan of HDR, but sometimes it does work in an image.

beautiful shot, the positioning of the camera makes this feel very impressive!
i went here once and heard about an old ceremony that happened here – every year or so they would throw black cats off the top of the building because they thought they were the link to witches!! nowadays they do the same but they use fake cats and they have chocolate in! :)

Thanks Kevin – I think I have heard of this tradition too. One of the amazing things with Ypres is that none of the buildings are as old as they appear – the town was extensively rebuilt after the destruction of WW1.
