Wow this is seriously fantastic … I had no idea comments could have a tail that looked the that !
Pilgrim
Yes, this isn an absoluttely remarkable image. I tried to get a view of the latest comet but it was only visible in East, which is over the city of Melbourne from where I am and so was not visiblle. Will make more of an effort next time.
Lindsay Blamey
WOH! – This is incredible.. I’ve heard a lot of people talk about trying to photograph this… but the fact that you’ve got such a great capture, exposure and managed to compose it so well is very impressive… How long was the exposure?
Cliff Vestergaard
Ya wow super cool nic shot
webgrrl
VERY NICE!
Pilgrim i could see it from my verandah from ferntree gully, unfortunately im not that clever with the camera.. :(

Beautiful shot Colin! This comet was absolutely wonderful. Pilgrim, “next time” for this particular comet won’t be in our lifetimes, but here’s hoping that there are more like it! We got a great view of it from Ridge road near The Patch…

Phil Eckert
deserves a good frame…. great shot !!
Craig Watson
Absolutely brilliant!!! Captured the comet beautifully… I am envious!!!
Out of curiosity, what settings did you use when you took the image. The shots I took did not turn out anything like yours. I had a 400 ASA film in my good old Ricoh XR2 camera and took shots for 20 to 30 seconds at full aperture and nothing like yours came out of the processing of the film.
Well done.

Awsome – great shot!!
Kenneth Pang
Simply beautiful : )

Thankyou all very much,
I was using the bulb setting on my D70s and exposing for around the 50 – 70 second mark.
I also varied the iso from around 800 to 1600 hence the noise levels.
There are some much better shots taken by a fellow, I think, out at the siding springs observatory.

Very beautiful! I would have guessed this was a minute exposure, due to the movement of the stars. Ive experimented shooting the stars myself, but have so far only done 30 second max exposures with my Canon EOS 400D. Still want to give bulb a try sometime though. I have nowhere near as clean a sky as you do out there though. I live in a city with light polution so I will get even more noise that you.
Neil Boucher
Wonderfully captured Colin. I have seen so many beautiful photos of this comet, like yours, and am so disappointed that I wasn’t better prepaired.
