Beamish wheel

Beamish wheel

This is the old Beamish wheel in County Durham, England.

Painted in watercolour and pencil, in the style of Thomas Hair (1810 – 1875).
My hero from the 1830’s.

He is unknown in his own town (Newcastle upon Tyne) and was buried in an unmarked grave, but his work was stunning. Finding artistic beauty, amongst the hellish conditions of industry, in the 1830’s!

This is my latest (and my personal favourite) from my Thomas Hair series.

Beamish wheel belongs to the following groups:

You have such an enormous amount of talent Colin…..this is no exception! just stunning in every way!

  • Colin Cartwright replied

Thank you very much, Penny! This is the painting I worked hardest at!

And my personal favourite of all – over all those I’ve created over 17 months, since I started.

I’m disapponted with just 4 comments though.

Have you tried adding a few more tags? ie: brown, black, sketch, white, drawing etc? Also, getting out there and displaying your work in the groups also helps, getting around and leaving comments is also another way to get people to see your work…and you can meet some wonderful people!

Thank you for that advice Penny. I must make my tags simpler.

I’m easy disillusioned. Must be my artist’s temperament!

My ‘Somewhere, Somewhen…’ painting, has just been rejected from the ‘fantasy art’ lot.

thanks for the hello colin, this one I can feel the light , the same with the grey background of the Drops. whereas ravens rest has a foreboding to it’s feeling… all in all I’ld like to say your art is emerging coming to life and enticing the viewer to “feel”
..and the one eye and failing health colin ,I trust the art you do gives you a different sight… and the pleasure of creating eases your burden..
    love life
