    Excellent artwork, Colin
The intricate detail in the railings sets of the soft focus of the building in the background.

  • Colin Cartwright replied

Cheers, George. I spent my 50th birthday there!

Hi Colin!! What a delightful painting you have created. The essence of Paris captured on the balcony – tree lined street and wrought iron.. makes me want to walk right up to the edge and look down The Avenue des Champs-Élysées.
    Beautiful! Ciao

Long time no see Colin. But then you had better things to do in Paris. You’ve captured the atmosphere of the place so well I can smell the coffee.

  • Colin Cartwright replied

Thanks for your usual support, Brian. Most appreciated.
My deteriorating health, means I can’t paint as frequently as I’d like.

But as ever, the spirit still wants to go! I used oils for the first time this week, God they are hard!!

This so makes me wish I was back in Paris again. This really captures the light and I am really impressed by thoser railings; a good feat of draughtsmanship to make them look so real.

  • Colin Cartwright replied

Thanks Dave. pleased you got that atmosphere.

I really struggled with this one, as I was unwell, as usual, when painting this in situ. The repetitiveness in a painting, I find difficult, as I can’t always make repeating objects appear identical. I like to think it gives the scene character, when they don’t quite look like machine-like in their construction!

Like Dave I’m truly impressed with the detailed railing. They’re in very nice contrast to the beautiful greens and reds. What a wonderful painting.

Colin.. that fine line touch .. works so wellhere. I am fascinated what tools//nmaterials you use.. for this
    Beauty captured.

Thanks for the informative comments – they are much appreciated.

As for this very simple materials. poundland paper, which is a quid for 20 A4 sheets. I love the line texture to this, which gives a nice rough texture when painting.
Little brushes – number 1 nylon and a slightly larger dappling brush, for texturing. Using cheap Ashby paint pans, on site. And later, St Petersburg watercolour pans, which take some time to get used to, but produce some fine watercolour results. And my very shaky hand – I don’t use rulers, as they make lines look too machine like.
