Alan Harris
Great picture Colin ..litlle henry is an excellent focal point
Colin Cartwright replied
Cheers, Alan. This is the unfinished one – but wanted to upload ASAP!
I’ve since added some refinements, including the name on the schooner, and added work on distance detail, ropes and shrouds.
I’ll reload that one soon, in place of this.

Oh, so this is the one you have been working on Colin. A really magnificent watercolor. You have such a splendid style and you really know how to make these “old ” ships and their surroundings come to life. The colors are so perfect. I love your work dear friend.
Colin Cartwright replied
Yes, two weeks work, Linda. I had to repair a nasty crease down the centre of the paper, which I didn’t notice ‘til I’d finished the careful, and painstaking, sketch!
Another fine comment, my friend. Which is much appreciated.

Bonnie Steinbach
What a beauty, glad to see that you are painting Colin. I might have to have this one to go with the one hanging over my fireplace :) Hugs, Bon
Colin Cartwright replied
Thanks, Bon. But wait ‘til I’ve finished it completely. As it was a tough painting to get perfect, I keep adding slowly to this one, and uploading the new image, to replace the image above. The current here to date, is the third, I think!
ANNETTE HAGGER
Colin Cartwright replied
A great boost, Annette. Much appreciated!

As I told my friend, Bonnie, above, this painting was a difficult one to get just right.
I keep adding slowly to this one, and uploading the new image, to replace the image above. The current here to date, is the third…so far…..

Yeah, Ivan Aivazovsky was a great painter of the sea. I have many favorites, and I’d love to have a go at copying one some day. I admire your skill in this area Colin. As a lover of all things nautical, I’m very attracted to your work.
Colin Cartwright replied
Thanks, Andrea! Just go for it – you’ll learn so much from him.
He was a a genius. I really appreciate your encouraging comment.

Peaceful, relaxing, great colors. I love it!
Billlee
This is great as is Colin, but I guess you still need to go on creating uuntil you are satisfied with it!! This sort of work must teach you to have incredible patience, and the ability to know when you have to stop!!!
Sorry I haven’t commented much of late, but I have just been looking through your PF here and I am full of admiration for your skill, talent and imagination.
Keep believing in yourself, and spare a thought sometimes for The Big Guy up there who gave you your talents!!!
God Bless, Bill.
Colin Cartwright replied
I forget the grinding, crippling pain, when I strive to finally finish a painting. early days still – 3 years painting. Some good old, solid therapy, with results!
Some are done straight away, others take so much fiddling ‘til they are finished!
I don’t think your ‘Big Guy’ out there, needs our constant attention, Bill – otherwise he’d be very insecure
Torfinn Johann...
Gorgeous work!
Maria Dryfhout
Very nice indeed… caught my eye immediately!
BLYTHART
There is a wonderful sense of depth in this painting. You really excel at nautical scenes. Are ships a particular passion of yours? I get the feeling when viewing this that the subject means a lot to you.
Colin Cartwright replied
I like painting ships, as they are hard work! A real challenge – especially old ones from the sailing era. I don’t know why, maybe in a past life they meant a lot.
gerardo segism...
charming and appealing to the viewer – a very effective approach and handllng of the medium
Colin Cartwright replied
Thank you, Gerardo. A fine comment.
