Yes! Such a successful painting Colin, love it! I suppose colleries looked pretty much the same wherever they are….or were, but you’ve really captured the buildings and particularly the atmospher with this piece. Great!

An excelent industrial pice colin !!!
your limited palette works extremley wel in this picture.
I recently did a series of postcard size, colliery drawings in pen, My wife had them framed and they hang on the kitchen wall !
She did not give me time to post them on the RB before they were under glass.

Fantastic drawing/painting Colin. Just the right amount of color. You are a super “renderer”......( if that is a word ). I always love viewing your work. There is a certain charm about it and your pieces each have a bit of history to tell.
Colin Cartwright replied
An excellent comment, Linda!
Thanks – and for favoriting too.

Great work on the sky….excellent details.

This is fabulous Colin. The sky looks all smokey and chokey, which I guess went with the colliery. Lovely job.

Colin Cartwright replied
Thank you very much, Marion.
I painted this in April, for my Uncle, who worked there when he was 15, in the 1930’s but he just didn’t survive to see it.

As I said, your work was always good, but it is now way past “good”.
BLYTHART
This is a good example of what you were saying about imbuing a photo with life by painting it .. well done.
Colin Cartwright replied
You seem to like this painting, Dave! Three comments!

I have an album of the Felling Male Voice choir and my grandfathers were both coal miners at one time (not at Felling though), so yes, this appeals to me … and yes, I know … that’s four comments :)

Great work Colin!

‘Skyscapes’ group you have rejected my fine watercolours, for the last time. Good riddance. Stay happy with your boring snapshots, instead of real art.
Jan Szymczuk
I grew up in a pit village, Pegswood, stuck between Ashington and Morpeth, my father was a miner and looking at this I feel I’m right back “yem” as a young lad where I’d sneak off from school to have a sly meal in the pitman’s canteen now and again. Excellent work.
Colin Cartwright replied
Cheers marra.
I read your bio, Jan, and wished I should have done art, instead of science, when younger (and still able bodied), instead of picking up a brush 3 years ago for therapy.
Yes. I’m proud of this watecolour – it was a few yards from where I live, in Felling. I painted it for my dying Uncle, who worked here in the 30’s, (when he was 15). But he didn’t survive to see it.

Brilliant piece, reminds me of my childhood holidays to my grandparents in country Victoria.
