I love the way the waves sparkle … great work.
Colin Cartwright replied
Cheers,Dave.
The sparkle is due to the magical opacity, of the zinc gouache!
Thanks for adding this to your faves.

Thanks Brian. Yes it’s not a bad response, by my large scroll bar standards!
And yes, this is my best painting to date, from the Shipley art gallery, Masters series..

I love how you painted the waves. You captured them like a photograph. The action in the boats is great. Can see how rough the seas can be at times. I love the painting. Beautiful
Dayonda
I never get tired of this one, Colin. I can see why it ended up framed and hung in your living room!
Just about the time they were beginning to use steam to power some boats and small ships, isn’t it? I see a smoke stack in this, if I’m not mistaken. (And I often am!) DS
Colin Cartwright replied
Thanks a lot for the comment. I noticed, some of my groups were not ticked, so I did so, and this painting has gone into those groups.
Technically, this painting was one of my best. Yes, the steamer is mixed with the fishing sailing smacks here.
Lynda Robinson
Really beautiful work Colin. The colours in the water are perfect and you have achieved a great feeling of movement in the waves. Excellent!
Claudia Hansen

Sharon Mau
It is a beautiful work of art Colin, I love the look of the water.
Colin Cartwright replied
Thanks for commenting, Sharon. All Countries ~ Wetlands, Ponds, Lakes and Rivers.’ group, you rejected this with the usual standard ‘not acceptable’ rejection.
Why do you just want dull photos in your group?
Anyone can take a photo.
Ken Tregoning
Great interpretation and lovely workmanship “well done!”
F.A. Moore
Such a fine watercolor. Your waves are superb. Love this.
Colin Cartwright replied
I have the central version of this painting, with very different light and colours, in my gallery as well, titled, ‘Ramsgate Harbour’. If you like the town and harbour, (I’ve never visited) then you might like to peruse it.
Thank you very much, Fran, for your kind comments and favoritings!

Excellent study, really captured the mood of the sea, nice work!
Colin Cartwright replied 26 days ago
Thanks Beth. I painted this one at Shipley art gallery, and refined it at home.
A lot of work went into this watercolour. I learned a lot about composition and
detailing within a painting, from this one.
