Smailholm Sunset

The defensive Tower house of Smailholm, just over the Scottish border, near Kelso.

The tower was built in the mid 1400’s at a time when lawlessness and violent bands of reivers, ravaged the lands both sides of the English-Scottish border.

And a solitary white swan, resides below the Tower

Even today, the landscape is lonely, and you can easily imagine the starkness of those dark days.

Dreary dull, grey, original digital photograph.
Lots of photoshop layers and borrowed sunset from my bonny Northumberland, Budle Bay photo. Inversion and refining with digital painting….. it would have been easier to conventionally paint this!!

Put into a dreary grey sky, and pond, at Smailholm lots of painstaking graft and…et voila!

It’s a series of layered photos, with much work done on the colours and details. As I started with a bland grey building and landscape.
The real challenge for me is painting, as I’m just learning ( a couple of years).

I have another site, (photopoints) for my many photos over the past 3 years.

It’s quite easy, Marie.

First, take a good quality digital picture of your painting. And download to your computer. Or scan it into your computer if your prefer.

Go to your ‘my bubble’ , then ‘upload something’ (third line down, by ‘quick links’). Then ‘add an image’.
At this last stage, you can add a title and description. Then you’ll find a submit button, at the bottom of this a page. And then your work is put on redbubble!

Thanks LT.
It’s not too difficult – even for me, who is slow through illness these days. A short course at your local college (evening class a couple of hours a week) could have you doing this stuff in a few weeks. Unlike painting and drawing, there’s not much to it. However I did quite a bit of digital fiddling and painting on this.

Anyone can learn digi fiddling – I’ve seen many learn it. But not many can draw like you can! That’s real talent.

I put this at the end of my gallery, because it was getting so many comments and faves, it was annoying me. Not that I don’t appreciate your wonderful comment!!! It takes me so long – and so much effort – to paint a watercolour, yet photo art takes a couple of hours, maximum. But this site loves snapshots and doesn’t rate paintings.

well…i liked it…..and i know what u mean…but i dont have that problem of getting so many favs….lol..i mostly go unnoticed…but i’m not as good as this either….like i said….my dream is to be able to draw/paint/scribble something like this…if i could….i would never stop….and i dont think i would ever get discourage again :0)
