New Zealand Kune Kune Pig.

Has been described as a “Walt Disney cartoon version of a pig”

The small and friendly New Zealand kune kune pig is a real cutie and has been developed into it’s present form by a careful breeding programme in New Zealand in the late 1970’s and early 80’s when it was realised they faced extinction.

From only a very small number of purebred kune kune pigs they now number around 2000 and have been spread throughout the country then throughout the world to ensure against any localized catastrophe decimating the breed.
They are still registered as a rare breed but their survival now seems certain.

They have a lovely placid temperament.
The name “kune kune” is Maori/Polynesian for plump or fat and round.
