NEW ZEALAND IN MOURNING WE WEEP by coffeebean

29 MINERS DEAD
*The news this afternoon that our 29 trapped miners are believed to be dead after another massive methane gas explosion ripped through the Pike River mine on the West Coast is absolutely devastating. There has always been that glimmer of hope that somehow all or some may have survived the initial blast last Friday. Now that hope has gone as they say that nobody could have survived that last blast.
The agony the men’s families and friends and all who loved them are feeling is immense.
Our small nation is in such pain.
Everyone weeps.

24 x New Zealanders
2 x Australians
2 x Britons (Scotland)
1 x South African

Heartfelt condolences and love to all their families.*

So sad . Particularly after the fantastic miracle in Chile. My sympathy to all of the families and friends of all that lost their lives. Such brave people working in these dangerous places.

  • coffeebean:

Thank you very much Brunoboy. There is a very sombre mood today, it really is a profoundly sad loss felt right across the globe. Yes my hat goes off to the men everywhere who every day face the dangers of going underground.

no words can help, I’ve worked below surface, these tragedies make me thankful I did my time, made my money and went home in one piece. my sympathy to the families. I feel for the guys, some people are born to this and spend their entire lives in the industry but it’s got to make you think twice.
