This image was taken at the base of the Crazy Mountains here in Montana. This view from Upper Cottonwood Bench shows a southern portion of this magnificent range, the highest of its peaks reaching just over 11,200 feet. Though they do not command the height that many North American mountains do, the Crazies are an ‘island range’ which rise 6000 feet above the plains that surround them in all directions. Considered a part of the Montana Rockies and the greater Rocky Mountain Range, they are home to the largest concentration of wolverines on the planet…and some of my favorite scenes to photograph.
