Taylor Way
Taken in the Taylor Canyon region of Canyonlands National Park, this image shows an impressive mesa system that spans for miles in all directions. I followed an arroyo for several hours on this late afternoon, weaving in and out of the landscape and into new scenes of beauty, one after the other – it’s easy to see why people get lost. Growing up in a rural area gave me a strong sense of preparedness when venturing into the wilds, but the danger it presents is tempered by the exquisite forms that occur there, timeless and undaunted. This was my third trip to Canyonlands in two years and it’s more amazing each time I go…

Cody, this is a terrific black and white conversion; with wonderful tones and contrasts. Excellent composition, and perfectly exposed. You nailed this one, Amigo! Cheers! Chris

Hi Chris,
Thank you for your kind words. There’s something about a circular polarizer that I can’t get over…the way it adds contrast between the sky and clouds, it just pops right out. I used a duotone process in the conversion, adding a slight hint of warmth and age to the mood of the shot. Again, many thanks.

We must have been posting comments at the same time, Rosina, I’m sorry I missed yours. Thank you for taking time to share your support.

Not only did you get good contrast on the rock formation the sky. the sky. Here is the best element! did you have to wait for the white clouds to place perfectly over the largest formations? the sky gives the picture dynamic motion.Thank you for sharing this .

Thank you, David. I was actually able to position myself fairly well along the canyon bottom to align the elements, but the cloud was moving in the right way. :-)
