'Autumn, Farfield Hall, Addingham, Yorkshire' by

Farfield is a private residence that was built in the 1720s. It is located just off the road between Addingham and Bolton Bridge near Bolton Abbey. As I child I remember being driven past this house many times – back then it was an old folks home – and it always seemed rather spooky and mysterious. I think it was making up stories and letting my childhood imagination run riot about this house that inspired my interest in historic buildings. We still pass the house on a regular basis on our trips up the Dales and it has long been my mission to paint a portrait at some point.
Mixed media (Pen and ink wash, wax resist and oil pastel) on Bockingford watercolour paper.

It’s beautiful. Reminds me a bit of a work by John Piper.

  • That is a huge compliment! I am very inspired by the works of John Piper, Paul Nash and Graham Sutherland. Thank you so much for your lovely comment!
