Yes, but do people know that these light bulbs contain mercury and can’t just be thrown out? This hasn’t been communicated very well and most communities aren’t equiped for the disposal of these, so they are being thrown out with the garbage, for the mercury to leach out in the landfills when broken.

I found out the hard way. A former friend guilted me to start using them about 2 years ago. I just found out about the mercury only a few months ago. Now I feel guilty in the other direction. I blame the company and the government for keeping this info low key, probably in the guise of appearing greener.

If enough people contacted their local councils & expressed their concerns about not having proper facilities to dispose of these light bulbs & the mercury waste within, then it might force them into action. The alternative is that we have mercury leeching into our water ways & into the food chain. The old fluorescent tubes we have been using for years contain mercury as well. It really bugs me that these new energy efficient lights are promoted as being environmentally friendly when they are poisoning our environment & the food we eat. Most people would be willing to dispose of this waste properly if given the opportunity but at the moment most people don’t even no the risks!
