Nature offers myriad colours and compositions even in the humblest of dwellers. Spread along our daily routine, they fill me with awe: gleaming dewdrops on a leaf, the intense labour in an ant trail, the delicate pattern of a cobweb, the intricate design of a dragonfly wing or the mineral glitter on a small rock. Art in its subtlety lies before me day after day.

Humble and Beautiful
I find inspiration in the simple and many times overlooked elements of Nature. My soul stirrs in emotion when I discover, at a closer look, those elaborated forms, the patterns and intricacies, the sheer beauty of ordinary elements.

Indian Corn, a humble staple, unveils a conspicuos treasure through its glorious colours and radiance. It teaches us how humble can be beautiful, how a basic staple can carry sheer elegance and intricate patterns.

Indian Corn with its array of vibrant colours is the natural form of the corn ear. Conversely, corn ears of a single colour, like yellow or white, are products of human selection and modification.

You may wonder why Indian Corn carries such an array of stunning colours. You may wonder what produces such a variety of hues …

A Conspicuous Treasure
Each grain carries its own colour because the pigment aids in the defense against diseases. Hence, each corn ear is a unique piece of Nature’s art. I learn from this simple and pretty plant a good lesson on survival.

A miraculous tapestry carrying kaleidoscopic colours unveils before my eyes. Golden hues, pastels, red, black dissolving into coppery brown, white, mauve turning into magenta, ochre, pink mixed with orange. Each grain carries a delicate rainbow scintillating like a polished marble. Myriad combinations bring to life the glorious colours of Indian Corn.

The humble and simple natural elements around us carry conspicuous beauty and wisdom. It is up to us to pause for a while, observe and listen.
