Hola Bubblers!
Im onto my Final Major Project in college. eek with one week to go! (oops) For it, i’ve been looking into human behaviour. inperticular anxiety. to cut a long story short i wanted to find that something, universal that creates some sort of anxiety within everyone. I came to the conclusion it was whatching a sex scene from a film or tv program when your parents are in the room.. it creates a reacrtion whatever it is.
My questions to you
Whilst watching tv or a film with your parents (grandparents)and sex scene comes on, what happens ? how do you feel?? (if anything)
Can you remember a scene in a film or tv programe that left you feeling particularly akward in the above situation?
Anne van Alkemade
Ah, what a fantastic project. Well, yes, I remember two incidents particularly, but only with my mum. First time was Mum and I went to see Annie Hall when I was about 13. Very uncomfortable, I remember feeling glad we were sitting in the dark because I must have been as red a s a beetroot.
Another, when I was about 18 or 20, a group of my friends came around and we sat down with Mum one Saturday afternoon to watch, I think it’s called, Eye of the Needle with Donald Sutherland. There is a very, very raunchy scene in it with the leading lady. All comments were along the lines of “ooh aahh” but the funniest thing – we were all sitting on chairs or on the floor, and several of us were curling our toes, quite unconsciously until someone pointed it out.
Don’t know if that is the sort of response your after. Best I can remember though, the second one while a bit embarrassing was also quite hilarious. Generally speaking, I don’t much like watching sex in films at all, and distinctly uncomfortable in company although I don’t think I’m a prude or anything. Perhaps 13 was too young to be seeing Annie Hall. LOL.

Oh myyy – sex scenes with the parents! That’s an awkward one. I’d probably enjoy them if I was on my own, but when Mum or Dad’s there – or when they’re both there, even worse – it’s just tedious and seconds seem hours! I don’t know why. I’m not prude but I feel so bad that they’re witnessing certain things. It’s especially bad when Sex and the City’s on. I love that show and am trying to convince my mum it’s great but she only seems to see the sex scenes and is therefore convinced it’s just mind-numbing sex-orientated (yah, it is, but…). Ahh! There’s just no winning with the parentals :(
