Artist's Description

One in our collection of mamas and their children. These relationships transcend all boundaries and all cultures.

In this photo, mama holds the baby in a wrap while she nurses.

Oko is the Wichi word for “my mother.” Nouns in Wichi are different than in English or Spanish. They’re often conjugated. For example, there is no word for mother. Instead, mother must have ownership.

-KO is the root word for mother. Oko, my mother. Ako, your mother. Lako, his mother.
