Chewton Keynsham Bridge Sluice Gate. by

The sluice gate mechanism shown in this photo can be found on one of the bridges at Chewton Keynsham near Bristol and is made by a firm called J. Trott of Bristol. It is no longer in use.

It is of special interest to me because my grandfather used to operate these sluice gates to stop flooding in Chewton in the early 1900’s.

In my eyes this old mechanism is beautiful and I hope that it is always preserved.

I so agree that beautiful and interesting mechanisms like this should be preserved! I like ‘heavy metal’ things like this – great shot, too!
