The Mistress

Hidden amidst the shadows
a shroud of semi-darkness
veils her secret lust, her yearning love
with guilty forced anonymity.
Hidden behind the mirror
dodging the glaring spotlight
grasping every fleeting encounter
embezzled time;illicit, stolen, moments.
Hidden behind the facade
a web of careful lies
ignoring divided loyalty
avoidance, denial; fictitious happy endings.
Hidden behind the truth
beacon of light and goodness
This prisoner needs to break the chains
release the purity of her heart.

The Mistress

A poem I wrote quite a few years ago about a mistress, always hiding in the shadows and feeling second best.

Thanks, Wendy, I wrote this at a difficult time of my life when I’d been badly hurt.
