Only the ghosts of steam age dreams remain. by

Built on empire’s glory and commercial need,
highest of them all, to carry the iron horse,
belching fire and water,
now a hanging garden for nature’s adventurers.

The High Level Bridge in Newcastle, Tyne and Wear, England, on a very cold morning. This vent pipe is now the closest this bridge comes to remembering the rattle of flying steam trains north. Designed by Robert Stephenson and one of the best places to walk across and get some stunning views along the River Tyne.

Converted into black and white and best viewed large.

Shot on an Olympus E30.
