When two banks became one. by

Echoing memory of an ice lake flow,
this ancient drain of fell and land,
curved to the will of man,
now joined as one by winter’s priest.

Ouse Bridge in York crossing it’s namesake in a wonderful moment of solidity of the river surface. The long chill finally caused this fast moving river to freeze over just before Christmas, a pleasant change to the normal flooding.

Converted into black and white and best viewed large.

Shot on an Olympus E30.

“When two banks become one?” Isn’t that a merger? (or takeover!) Quickly erasing negative thought.. Beautiful shot Richard!!

  • LOL love a contemporary twist on a title ;) For once the light was just right for me along here. Thanks Dar

    G’day RICHARD!

Going by the title I thought this photograph was going to be about a co-orperate takeover. 8-)

Fantastic tonal range and contrast clearly display the deep chill of a frozen winter. I can almost feel in the stones themselves.
The crisp air, your focus and depth of field have rendered remarkable clarity throughout this scene.

In this country, when two banks become one, everyone gets nervous. Investors beware (yes, mergers & corporate takeovers). This, however, shows banks of a different stripe, & I like the notion of ’winter’s priest’ with his very cold finger (was he beckoning you to enter his web of sin?). But Don’t Go In… you’ll freeze various parts of your anatomy off. Wonderful image; the very picture of a comfortable chill.

  • There were as always, brain dead types you tried to walk or skate across it, so was a brave coward and stayed on firmer ground lol. thanks Sheila :)

No its not lol, we went out again today. Its not as bad as the first lot we had, but still enough to take several attempts to get up a hill and then we fell in a ditch lmao. Thats Scotland for you lol :)

  • Well as I type, I can hear the window howling outside.. not snowing again is it up your way? Glad you made it out of the ditch
