Where once cotton barons rode
and shuffling clerks bent into the rain,
trams still rattle and wheeze,
this crown to the land of Empire cotton.

St Peter’s Square in Manchester on a grey summer day, the lines of the buildings, the new tram system and the people, just echoed the paintings of Lowery.

Converted into black and white and best viewed large.

  • Wensleydale anyone? :) thank you George, had a cracking morning at the art gallery looking at Dorothy Bohm’s exhibition before heading off to the Salford Quay’s

He did well for a Stretford boy and you have done well too Mr History. A sense of going somewhere that was conveyed in many of the masters works…

  • Thank you ET, worth the trip to the Lowery just to see his work, they have started to grow on me
