Built to the power of fear, a watch tower across the landscape, echoing to the moans and laughter, a family home now to the crows.
Sheriff Hutton castle in North Yorkshire under a setting winter skyscape. A place mentioned in Shakespeare, home to Kings and a place to retire to from the duties in York, besides the usual things that happen with castles. This being the second castle in the village.
The reason for the image title? This is not the case of ruined by war, but by credit borrowing and the loan being called in and being unable to pay. The guy who had bought the loan from another lender.. sound familiar… came along with some carts and ox and carted the stone off to build a lodge down the road.
Converted into black and white and best viewed large.
You have some awesome scenery in those there parts Rich This is brilliant. Would love to get there.
Thanks Glenn, there is a walk right round this and the other castle, moats and fish ponds, rolling hills and two pubs, not a bad place to live or visit ;)
lordy, lordy, I just love this, profound, intriguing, slightly spooky and a wonderful timeless quality t’boot. Champion, as we say in the (very) North ;-) Cheers, H
