The tree Bilbo left behind looking out to the lonely mountains on a winter's late afternoon. by

Upon this hill, lies Hill,
nestled by sea and mountain’s finger shade,
roots grappling ancient stone,
each year’s growth and battle won.

Taken at The Hill, Cumbria, England looking back towards where the River Duddon meets the sea from it birth place high in the fell.

Converted into black and white and best viewed large.

Shot on a Olympus E30

Is that The Hill as in on the way to Millom? Great shot and nice to see you back in Cumbria

  • LOL yep, was on the way to the Plough when I saw this and was lucky enough to catch the light on the way back. Not very often over this far north west much these days, stuck in the south parts of Lancashire :(

Yes, that’s it. Didn’t remember that Bilbo was ever on the road to Millom, but I’m getting old, eh? Wonderful image, which means, literally, Full Of Wonder. Happy New Year, Ricardo!

  • It was cut out of the movie and the edition the author sent to the publishers ;) Happy New year too and have a pinging year ahead

Is that the backgroud they chose for the poster of episode 3 to come ?

  • Now that would be nice, though I think the backers in New Zealand might have a grumble ;)
