Love's equal path

This is the delightfully named Beggar’s Bridge on the outskirts of Glaisdale in North Yorkshire in the North York Moors National Park, crossing the River Esk.

Built for love, the contrasting shadow and light across the bridge, provides a wonderful metaphor for the path of life and love.

Converted into pinhole black and white

It seems someone tried to put an obstacle across this path, unbelievable…! ;-)

  • clickinhistory replied

It is to stop people driving over it, especially those 4×4 drivers as it is built for a horse and cart and foot passengers lol. Most cars would end up grounded too, which would serve them right lol :)

Fascinating capture! It could also be called Life’s stumbling blocks. I wonder who put that block there and why?

  • clickinhistory replied

Thank you Marian, like the title, as for the reason, see above lol

maybe the fact that someone tried to create a problem,to stop someone from leaving where they wanted to be, haunts me!! still a beautiful image, ying and yang!!!!

i think maybe the rock is there to stop vehicles etc, and leave it as a lovers walk, maybe today I am just too clinical. haha!, by the way Richard – it works really well, the shadow , the lines , lurve what appears to be a drop-off on each side of the bridge, the feeling of ‘togetherness is the way forward’

  • clickinhistory replied

No lol you are right, people used to try and drive their cars over this despite the less fancy road bridge right next to it. Thanks as always Tempe

lol , i originally wrote ” the block is put there to stop eejits driving their 4wds over it”, and thought i best tone it down, but what the hell. i now firmly believe it is a talisman , placed to ward off any nawdy spirits from the other world crossing over to eat hapless photographers. It is quite a bewitching image, like it alot.

  • clickinhistory replied

now you mention it, the goats seem to give this place a wide berth….

i agree with Tempe!!!!!!! being Cornish and living in Cornwall, we are brought up with folk law and legends!!!everything for us is because of some alternative reality!!!!!!!! thank goodness im no photographer!!!!

  • clickinhistory replied

lol it is the same in parts of the dales and moors in Yorkshire, as they used to say, find the church and you find an older holier place close by the olds still wait

a stone can be removed, where as love cannot!!!!!!!!!

  • clickinhistory replied

Once heard that even when a relationship ends, all that happens is the love is displaced in the memory of the heart
