Farmers Market 1950s by Cleburnus

Many Tennesseans shopped for fresh produce routinely at the Nashville Farmer’s Market prior to the big grocery store chains. These markets also provided a primary means for small farmers to make a decent living before being squeezed out by the big corporate farms soon to appear on the American landscape.
This is a typical scene at the Farmers Market circa early 1950s. Due to nasty vegetables in the big chain stores many Tennesseans are now returning to shop at the Farmer’s Markets for fresh locally grown organic produce.

This is great. It reminds me a bit of the Dorothea Lange photos. Agnes:)))

  • I found a trove of old Nashville photos recently . I’m enjoying going through them.
