In Russian folklore, Baba Yaga is the classic witch. A guardian of the fountain of life, she dwells deep the forest, in a hut that stands on a chicken foot.
WOW Wonderful story tellling and illustration- bravo xxx
Thank you! I just love Russian fairy tales — they are unbelievably imaginative, charming, and captivating. It’s a challenge to do them justice in illustration.
I’ve always liked Mussorgsky’s The Hut on Fowl’s Legs from his Pictures At An Exhibition suite, but didn’t know that it was a well-known story. Thank you for the information, and the wonderful illustration!
So wonderful, Annya. I think I see a bit of New Mexico in the skull above the doorway? Thanks for introducing me to this folklore in such a storybook fashion.

Brilliant! Very ingenious… a cabin on a chook’s foot… that would be so useful :D You’ve illustrated the story beautifully!
