Anticipation by Clark Takashima

Anticipation by

This original acrylic painting on canvas was created to depict a surfer intimately caressing the wave face as he is about to get tubed. By touching the face of the wave he feels his way through, controlling his speed and checking his position on the face. The anticipation part is untrue as he only has to wait a second to reap his reward. Somehow, in the tube time seems to be slower than “normal chronological order”. Thus the title to this work. For an experience of tube riding, check out Redbull surfing.com or My eyes won’t dry on Youtube.

now that is a line up. and yes I have experienced “no time” or time standing still in a good barrel. Very true. I’ve wondered at the metaphysics of time distortion in the surf and there is nothing like it, except accident victims when they are in imminent danger…curious.

Your painting is amazing. I could almost hear the sound of water and all emotions the surfer left behind the water…fantastic!
