One of the most gorgeous creatures Mother Nature has gifted mankind with has been with us for nearly three weeks now.

After a couple of days, we named her Mistgirl and shortened it to Misty . . . what else!
She’s tiny and almost as light as a feather, silky soft, funny, and completely gorgeous. She’s also quite feisty, but, loves a cuddle when She wants one. She sits on her haunches, just like a Meerkat, and picks up things in her front paws to play with or investigate them, or, to get a better look at something. She can be quite delicate or rough in her handling of things – she pushes my finger away so gently, I almost can’t feel it, and yet she hits a ball with amazing force for such a wee creature! Anything that dangles and/or moves is fair game for those tiny talons! When she runs, she sounds like a light-weight miniature elephant with wings!
She sneaks up on you and, before you know it, she’s climbing up the leg of your jeans to see what you’re up to! My knees and shoulders, and a few other places, too, are becoming covered in tiny red marks where she digs those miniscule, razor-sharp claws in as she climbs. We tried putting a collar with bells on it on her last week – that was a dismal failure, she’s so small you could have fitted two of her in it when it was done up to the smallest size! LOL
We’ve had to re-learn the habit of watching where we put our feet BEFORE putting them down and making sure she isn’t curled up where we intend to sit! Unfortunately, she moves so quickly and, like all cats, loves to stalk, so, unfortunately, I’ve stepped on her a couple of times. She has such a very small squeak instead of a meow.
Like all cats, she likes to be up high so she can see what’s going on around her; she has adopted our desks as one of her favourite places to be. If we shift her, she promptly gets right back where she was shifted from . . . .in front of the monitor!!! Just as well we both have flat monitors, she can’t sit on top of them like our last cat did. As I’m sitting here typing this, she’s adding her two bobs worth via the keyboard – my fingers moving over the keyboard seem to be an invitation to play! Oh, this is such Fun!
Having had to compete with at least FOUR other cats, three of them adults, where she came from, she’s making the most of it now and eating like a horse – for the moment, I don’t think this will do her any harm. She might even grow a little!!!
Strangely enough, she’s not very interested in going outside, and, yet, she was very much an outdoor cat where she came from. I don’t mind if she stays indoors as the street we live on is very busy for most of the day and would be a very dangerous place for a little kitten.

This is going to be one hell of a journey, she already has a very definite personality and it’s determination with a capital “D”.

Jan, what a lovely introduction and such wonderful pictures. I have to say the one with both of you in the frame is really cool… great crop and composition. Did Len take it or did you do it with the self timer? She is way adorable and I hope you get the most out of photographing her before she grows up. Of course older cats can be photogenic too, but you don’t often get the right circumstances and older cats often shy away from the camera, whereas kittens get into so much mischief it’s hard NOT to get a great shot!
Your descriptive reminds me of when we raised ours from that tender age… I’ve still got the scars on my legs from when they used to leap onto my trouser leg and clamp on with full claws. There was never a dull moment.
Looking forward to your next update, so PLEASE keep ‘em comin

Thank you for a wonderful compliment, Bill. I took all three pics, the last two with one hand, on the Kodak P&S – I “balanced” it on a pile of paperwork If I was home all day, it would be me stalking her with a camera! :-)) I’m afraid Misty thinks the camera, like just about everything else, is a plaything, and the lens cover with its strap and the wrist strap are dangles, so, . . . I’ll leave it to your imagination to picture the fun I have taking shots of her.
I’m going to have a few scars from this wee beastie’s growing up, I can tell. Not all of her signs are just claw pricks, some are scratches.
I’ll add to this as I can, so, check back on a weekly basis, and you might find something new.

Thank you so much for coming to visit, Randy. I appreciate your lovely compliment. She is settling in quite happily and she is, and will be, much loved. We just have to survive her learning time! LOL

I had come back into the study with a cup of coffee only to find that Misty had decided my chair was warm and comfortable, more so than my desk. Since she was, temporarily, being quiet, I decided to take some more pics. Only trouble is, the camera has two straps on it, and she finds them irrestible. Only moments after taking this, she was up on her haunches trying to snare the wrist strap.

Thank you for coming to visit, Linda, I appreciate it. We are both enjoying Misty – watching her as she learns, and discovers new things. To watch her play is very interesting, and entertaining – the things she most enjoys are things that most people would consider to be rubbish; things such as plastic supermarket bags (they makes lots of noise and move), a piece of screwed up paper from the deli, a dead leaf, anythings that dangles. She has discovered the joys of jewellery, dangley earrings to be precise; they move and make me move, too. I’m sure you get the picture.

Finally, just as I was about to give up for the evening, she decided to look straight into the camera lens. Aren’t cats the most wonderful, frustrating creatures around!!!!

Playing around this afternoon, she was batting a small, soft ball across the carpet. My husband decided to see if she would jump for! Of course she did, she loves jumping.
