Rose-Ringed Parakeet
Rose-ringed Parakeet Psittacula krameri - these parakeets now form large breeding flocks here in Al Ain in the UAE - originals were escapees some years ago—they are large gregarious birds – they fill the sky with their calls especially early morning and dusk as the leave and return to their roosts. I planted a lot of sunflowers specifically for them and now that the blooms are about finished the parakeets have ravaged the plants leaving just the stalks, cheap entertainment.

Rose-Ringed Parakeet belongs to the following groups:
Birds and Creatures of Flight, Nature's Wonders, The Birds, The true beauty and Urban Wildlife Available for sale asGreeting Cards, Matted Prints, Laminated Prints and Mounted Prints

A superbly captured avian portrait Dave, pose, colours and feather detail are all perfect.
It must be wonderful to see them in large numbers around your home, good for you for planting the sunflowers to feed and attract them, quality work my friend,
Regards, Rod.

What a gorgeous bird David! I would be thrilled to have birds this colorful visit my yard!
David Clark replied
Hi Renee—I think they would really put the scare into your chickadees they are probably at least two feet long and the 3 foot wingspan – thanks much – dave

David Clark replied
Hi Micheal
- thanks very much for looking at my photos – I appreciate it -these parakeets are like the local loud-mouthed bullys- they make sure you know they are around -I love having this large flash of noise and color in my garden – daveLYN EVANS

David, this guy is simply gorgeous!!!!! Fabulous photography from you as always … I think ONE (just one of many) of the things that makes your photography so appealing to me is the seemingly effortlessness with which you consistently produce excellence!!!!!! Always sound, compositionally, never cluttered, clean lines … always, always detail to cut your finger on … and color as natural and rich as can be!!!!!! YOU, sir, know how to take a picture!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Give lessons, do ya???
David Clark replied
Oh my
- now my head wont fit through the neck hole in my shirt -thanks very much Lois – high compliment indeed – I do a lot of sorting before I send something to RB- still not pleased with some of the shots here -however someone from a marketing firm in Dubai saw my photos on WS and had me take some specific photos for them—I sold four for a good amount of money- enough to buy a nice macro lens -so maybe I can get some good close-ups- enjoy your spring – daveLois Bryan
Oh, Dave!!! Congratulations on your assignment and the new lens!!! Fingers crossed for you that this will lead to more commissions!! I’d love to see your photography really take off and for you to be recognized as you should be!!!

Lovely parrots (and a great photo), but…well….an introduced species. What damage are they doing to the natural ecosystem. Are they demoloishing food resources for more timid native wildlife? They are large parrots and as you have illuded to, make short work of vegetation and food resources, especially in large flocks.
David Clark replied
Hey Chris – thanks for looking at my site and all the nice comments – these guys are introduced or at least non-native
- they may have come here on their own from India – there really isnt much here for them to damage and they stay mostly in the cities -they eat dates but there are millions of date trees and only a few hundred of these guys – they really don’t compete with any native wildlife which is pretty minimal anyway- I guess you can tell that I like them -thanks again – daveChrisCoombes
Ok cool. They are very nice birds so I’m not surprised that you like them :) We have them here in aviaries etc. I was just curious that’s all so thanks for the info.
David Clark replied
Hey Chris – pretty weird – but right after I wrote this to you I got a notice from a friend here that the govenment “environment” agency is presently undertaking a culling of these lovely birds – says they are competing with local birds (which is rubbish) I may have to throw up a protective grid around my garden so they cant get the ones here
- odd timing -love your photos – dave
