A fairly common kingfisher in southern Sri Lanka—hangs out on the telephone lines especially in the rice paddy areas and other wet boggy places.

    Now I’m the one to be jealous David. I have been trying to get a kingfisher shot for 3 years. Of course, our kingfisher’s are not nearly as exotic looking as this one you got . . . Great Shot!

    Hey John – there are some very exotic looking Kingfishers in Asia - I onlygot photos of two this trip. Used to have lots of belted kingfishers in the west—sometimes they would let me get close enough for photos – dave

    thanks Lorilee – there is another kingfisher which I saw but did not get a photograph – called the stork-billed - which is very large – gold and blue and has a huge red bill - quite the bird—dave

    oh my heavens, Dave!! I popped over to see if you’d taken your balloon ride and THIS guy .. this extraordinarily colorful guy flew right out of the computer monitor at me and say HI!!! WOWZER!!! What incredible color!!!! And a purple beak??? He’s glorious!!!! And you say he’s common?? .... ahhhh … THUD!!

    They are quite different in their feather colours from the Kingfishers we see in the UK but still a very beautiful and colourful bird, perfect focus and the shallow depth of field has blurred the background so well, very well captured Dave,
