Crested Lark and Dunes
A crested lark in early morning sunlight in the dune area of the United Arab Emirates. These guys are native, and very hardy surviving in the harsh desert environment and they have a wonderful light song. This male was too preoccupied with competitors to pay much attention to me (that is why his crest is up)

I must admit to never having heard of a crested lark let alone seeing or photographing one Dave, they are so regal looking with that feathered crest, perfect DOF and wonderful feather details, excellent work,
Regards, Rod.
David Clark replied
Hi Rod
- thanks much for the comment and for looking at the photos -the guy was busy singing and didnt seem to mind be slowly creeping towards him – I wanted to get the dune in the background instead of just sky – he was very cooperative—davejacobea

I am far from a bird expert David, but I have been learning as I took up bird photography myself about four years ago. I’ve got to say, I’ve never heard of a crested lark, but it’s certainly a cool looking bird and you’ve done a great job of capturing his image … nice work indeed!!
David Clark replied
Hi John
- birds are great subjects for photos esp if you can get them in a unique pose or doing something -we have lots of different types of larks here in the desert and this is one of the most common—a truly beautiful song – daveNolan Reynerson
Great shot, beautiful coloring, spot on focus!
David Clark replied
Hi again Nolan – thank you—I had to work a little for this one crawling slowly to get the sand dune directly behind him – dave
LudaNayvelt
