a little tribute to our national animal hero of 2009…
Sam the wild koala, who set our hearts on fire when he came out ot the burning forests and begged a drink from a fire-fighter, whose image also epitomised hope and community, while large parts of the state of Victoria and the properties of many residents were being burnt to the ground on Black Saturday, sadly passed on to happier hunting grounds today, no doubt to be re-united with many of his kind.
Sam, your courageous spirit will remain with us forever..

Oh my, what a beautiful animal and I so feel for those trapped or destroyed by the fires you experience. It always brings tears to my eyes when the animals suffer. They cannot escape as well as us two footed creatures. Thanks for posting this. My sorrow cannot be expressed enough. Karen
Cute little feller… very sad! I love koalas!! I am always shocked when animals suffer. We don’t have koalas near by but kangaroos. When I drive outside the city they’re lying death at the road side. Very sad! :(
