A large but unfledged King penguin chick. Shot in the wild on Salisbury Plain, South Georgia – they hang around in groups but isolated from their parents until they get their grown-up feathers, then they can go to sea and feed themselves. You just want to hug them because they walk up to you and look at you in the eye as if to say “are you my mother?” They sometimes follow you for a while and are obviously getting hungrier by the day, waiting for their proper sea-worthy wet-suits. to arrive
