Plume of the Station Fire in the Angeles Natl. Forest near L.A. Looking north to the San Gabriel Mountains from Pasadena this afternoon 8/30/09. Flames are visible at the bottom of the plume and another plume visible to the lower left. Canon 40D enlarged and cropped from a 17-85mm zoom. Auto exposure.

Using a camera since college. Trained as a photojournalist in the Navy. Three years with Pacific Stars & Stripes in Tokyo. Retired in ‘93. Then 15 years with municipal PD as evidence tech. Now fully retired and using Canon digitals. Enjoy shooting various subjects. Haven’t done nudes since the 90s. Experiment a lot with basic PS. Have a website and on FB.

    As of 8/31 this fire has burned 100,000 acres plus. Two fatalities, unknown number of “structures” destroyed. No containment for at least two weeks.

    Great capture, such devistation do you know if these fires were delibertly set, or just nature doing it’s thing?
