Rusted and Worn

Artist's Description

Fort Foster was interesting… It’s now a public park own by the Town of Kittery, Maine. Wandering it was an adventure, as there was this odd mix of beaches, and seaside walkways right along gunnery towers, and bunkers. The rusted texture and vents on this bunker door caught my attention and made for an interesting abstract.
The land for Fort Foster, located on the southwest tip of Gerrish Island in Kittery, Maine, was acquired by the federal government in 1872, making this fort the last of the “old” forts that were built in the Portsmouth area. (Information from the History of Fort Foster website.)
Taken September 2010 — Fort Foster, Kittery, Maine.
