Tailem Bend is a town on the famous Murray River in South Australia.
The Name is a corruption of the Aboriginal name “tailem” which was used in the area. The word means “bend” and is associated with the sharp bend that the Murray River makes in this location.
This magnificent railine was constructed in 1886 and spans the vast wetlands before crossing the Murray River into Tailem Bend.
That is gorgeous! Must have been quite an undertaking in the day.
Hi Liz. Thankyou for your lovely comment! Yes, it was a mean accomplishment to build such a complex bridge back in the late 1800s, and the Tailem Bend citizens are so proud of it:)
Great POV Chris. I have passed through Tailem Bend many many times.I was born a South Aussie. Di
Thanks Di. So your aa Crow-Eater…….LOL. Your football teams are not doing so well this year :) You have possibly gone through my hometown, Horsham on your way to Melbourne?
