Mountain Ash Tree (Eucalyptus regnans)
The Mountain Ash can reach heights of up to 150 metres, but generally only reach 100 metres. Girth size can exceed 15 metres at the base and is a dominant feature of the tall trees in Victoria, Australia.
It is the world’s tallest flowering plant, growing rapidly at a rate of 1 metre per year to reach heights of 100 metres, tallest. The only other species that comes a close second in height is the Californian Redwood ( Sequoia sempervirens).
I took this photo at the Otway Fly Tree Top Walk, a 600 metre long 25 metre high elevated tree top walk ascending at a gentle grade through a magnificent stand of cool temperate rainforests featuring Myrtle Beech, Blackwood and Mountain Ash trees and beautiful ground covered ferns.
