Cool Desert Nights kicks off with cool city cruise
By Dori O’Neal, Herald staff writer Cool Desert Nights kicks off with an open city cruise of cool cars starting at 5 p.m. June 25. About 800 cars are expected to turn out for the annual event that draws about 15,000 people to the Tri-Cities each year. Festivities include car shows, street dances and show ‘n’ shines all three days with most events happening in the Uptown Shopping Center along George Washington Way in Richland. But first the open city cruise gets under way at 5 p.m. leaving from TRAC off Road 68 in Pasco. Cars head to Kennewick and cruise through downtown before moving on to Columbia Park. From the park, the cars cruise to the end of Columbia Park Trail then catch Highway 240 into Richland, ending at the Dairy Queen on Jadwin Avenue. There, the vintage cars and their drivers will have a mini show ‘n’ shine for visitors. On June 26 there will be another cruise from 7 to 9 p.m. using the same route. There’ll be a whole lot of shakin’ goin’ on starting at 9 p.m. with Mike Harvey’s Super Gold Music from the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s.
