oh… wow!! now this is just something else Carmen!! These 3 you’ve just uploaded have so appealed to me. They’re wonderful. This one shows so much emotion, so much depth, quite haunting. Im intrigued by it.
Carmen Cilliers replied
Yea pretty raw this. Big and finished in 3 hours! Wish it was always that easy.

I like the depth & like how you’re keeping it so loose … wonderful!!

Definately a fave, not sure why I like the darker works of yours but anything like this and with some tonal range in works a treat :)
Carmen Cilliers replied
you like them because they are fucking honest and they seem to be the ones that i do quickly and in one sitting.

this is angry, and a little bit melancholy, I love it.
Carmen Cilliers replied
Not angry… just matter of fact, raw, woman.

Wonderful image, bold, vibrant and atmospheric.
Carmen Cilliers replied
Vibrant – I have to disagree, but we all have different ideas on ‘vibrant’. Do agree that it is atmospheric and bold and thank you very much for commenting.

I really like this piece Carmen. It seems very unusual for some reason. I see lots of things within it, besides the obvious feminine feature. It has a strong sense of Native American heritage, and a lost world feel for me. I see feathers, I see war paint and a tomahawk, yet beauty and peace. On the flip side I see a well presented young lady in a gloomy London street, adorned in fog and traffic fumes, and it invokes the smell of roses and cigar smoke to my nostrils. A very intriguing and thought provoking piece of work. I love it.
Carmen Cilliers replied
Hi Jules – it’s very rare for you to stop at my portfolio – and since you like this I suspect you will like a number of my new works not yet posted. Thanks, very interesting feedback, and you have picked up on the raw tribal element as well as the back street London grunge all of which I think is there too. I have been worried about it being too dark and dreary and yesterday considered overpainting areas to lighten it up, thankfully a friend stopped me in my tracks!
Thanks very much :)

Well, it is rare I stop by any portfolios lately :( Very busy baby in tow at the moment, so I generally only get to see what ever passes my activity monitor while I am actually here, with no time to backtrack pervious pages. I saw your journal, which then made me go check out your work, and I have to say, the latest is really great work, which is my cup of tea :) I am glad you didnt paint over this one – its great the way it is, really atmospheric.
