this is so gorgeous… so so gorgeous… : )
Carmen Cilliers replied
Thanks Mimi – The photo doesn’t really do it justice, it’s quite hard photographing these larger paintings with my very limited photographic skills : )

Carmen Cilliers replied
Hi Ray my friend – long time no chat! I just got back from hols a few days ago and am doing some catching up. One of the first things I did was go check yours and a couple of other ‘close bubble friends’ sites and as usual you have nothing new up!!!! bad boy! When you going to at least buy a sketch pad? : p
Just wondering if you know what ‘dag’ means in Australian?

beautiful work carmen . . . worth the wait sweetie . . . there’s a touch of the bret whitely’s about this for me, if it’s OK to say that that . . . this is such a powerful piece, so strong & bold & the textures & colours must really pop in the flesh . . . so delicicious

Carmen Cilliers replied
Amanda – Brett is one of my idols so that is a huge compliment.
Ray Schloss
no… i was using the US meaning of “dag”, which is short for daggonit, which is a an expression used as to not take the Lord’s name in vain. so… do i even want to know what in means in Oz??
ya… i have a cool idea in mind, but just can’t seem to get motivated to do a canvas. and, yes, i thought about board, but ehhhh….
thanks for checking, and great to hear from you as always!
Carmen Cilliers replied
A dag in oz is the turd that hangs off a sheeps bum – the one stuck in the wool that didn’t quite hit the ground. : ) (Seriously – and it’s supposed to be a term of endearment which as a South African in a foreign land I found hard to believe)
Ray Schloss
LOLOLOL!! oh man… we call that a “dingleberry”. thanks for the late night laugh, cc!
Carmen Cilliers replied
Haha – in S.Africa we call it a dangleberry. : ) Sleep well!

Yeah I found them, welcome back am loving your new work, am particularly attracted to this piece, I love how through the abstractedness you can see the rock formation, I have no idea where Karijini is, but this reminds me of around the Northern Territory. Fabulous colour choice, you have definately captured the red of the rock against the georgous blue river, stunning
Karin Taylor
incredible, personally, I think this is my favourite of all your works now :)
madvlad
reminds me of zion nat park where the river cuts into the walls of navajo sand stone , you did a fine piece here,

Hi! Love your stuff … lots of variation, good doses of humour, and wonderful use of colour … nice to meet you! Where are you from?
Carmen Cilliers replied
I am from Perth Western Australia… well that is a lie, I am actually from South Africa… but I live in Perth. I used to live in Melbourne… trust me, I think you are lucky not to be as stupid as me to have moved. Circs… you know how it goes.
