The Industrious Shadow

The Industrious Shadow

Acrylic on Canvas 1m x 1m.

This started out as a self portrait, bright and happy like many of my figurative works, but as I continued I was thinking of the concept of authenticity. Suddenly I was squirting charcoal paint over the canvas. My subconscious took over from the conscious. I am so excited about this work. I feel it to be unconventional in regards to my usual style, although I haven’t yet settled on a specific style. This work has inspired me to go on a quest into the realms of the landscapes of the mind and soul and explore the archeypes of humanity.

I feel I am about to embark on an exciting journey.

Sold to a collector in Texas.

Enjoy, comment freely and all my thanks as always – Carmen ; )

oh,and I love the little angel. She’d look great on a tee,or a card just on her own :_)

  • Cilliers replied

Thanks Petal! The angel is the small facet of ourselves that recedes when the shadow speaks, after dialogueing with this work I feel that my shadow is both industrious and a bit of a trickster/rogue. Thanks for your comment : )

Hey Carmen – very, very special work! – this has all the hallmarks of your previous work but has also a much deeper and more ‘serious’ level which marks it out as the work of a painter who is really getting to realise something about themselves as an artist – no wonder you are excited about it, it is a fabulous painting and could be the first of the ones that make you famous!
I have so enjoyed watching your work develop over the past (is it really nine months since we joined?!) I just knew that one day you were going to come up with a serious contender…......and here it is !!!..............x and congratulations

  • Cilliers replied

I am excited about it and a bit nervous too in a way because I am not sure how I am going to develop the concept without it looking forced or contrived. Sometimes we have these brain waves but put too much pressure on ourselves. I think I can see a couple of genres happening and need to just let them keep unfolding.
I really appreciate your comments…your encouragement and your input – and surely it hasn’t been 9 months! Bloody hell?
