I was getting a lot more comments when I was doing my beach art… but I was on the bubble a lot more too then…... mmm, I wonder, does amount of commenting left = amount of commenting given. I thought it was on merit of work, I might be wrong.

Hi Carmen…This is very nice, but hey, that beach art is amazing. I am so new to all this, I dunno if the amount of comments given = those received, but hey, who cares? The art is what it is, and if people care to comment, it’s very nice, and if not, sell it anyway! lol. Thanks for all your help in the past. Be good!

Thanks everyone! I love this one too, but have since been told that it’s not my most ‘sophisticated work,’ I’ll post the more
sophisticated work when I get a chance to photograph it in better light.

  • Linda Ridpath

    Linda Ridpath

this is really gorgeous, the depth of colour is awesome…

  • Cilliers replied

Hey everyone! Thanks for sharing your comments on this one. I’m pretty chuffed with this, it took me ages and ages to finish off, there are probably about 10 – 15 layers of glazes so although it appears to be a simple abstract it was in fact quite a process. x : )

Brilliant work in so many ways. I love it.

  • Cilliers replied

Thanks Gitti… and ICandor – I would love to know in which ways? LOL – no, don’t worry, unless of course you have time : )

  • Vasile Stan

    Vasile Stan

    Sure Carmen:
    - brilliant red background, which is one of my fav colours;
    - simplicity of forms in contrasting, complementing colours;
    - sparsely arranged cuneiform shapes hinting to a vertical shape/structure, perhaps like a vessel/ship
    - perhaps, more than anything above, it’s a feeling of organized structure with simplicity and clarity of vision with a passion for life.

... hope this quenches your curiosity triggered by my initial vague comment. Given the time, I could be even more synthetically analytical on my “dissection” of your art… LOL

  • Cilliers replied

No need to be more synthetically analytical, you w ere good in this one! : )

  • Alan Findlater

    Alan Findlater

    Really good work well done

  • Cilliers replied

Thanks Alan, I really enjoyed painting it. The red was the last part (the last 10 layers of glaze or so) and the little windows of colour is how the painting started (the whole canvas was like that, blues and greens) and then I started the long process of knocking it all back to leave just slivers of blues and greens. Anyway, I enjoyed the process and thank you for commenting. : )

Hi Carmen thanks for your kind comments about my work. I love this one – very rich and beautiful colour

  • mattman

Even the thumbnail got me. Would love to see it at 120cm high.
Up and down direction along the totem, grounded with the block at the bottom. Several calming circles along the way with very few sideways knocks. All set against a passionate red headspace.
    To me it’s emotional harmony.
    Great work Carmen,
    M

  • Cilliers replied

Sadly Matt this photo doesn’t really do it justice in regards to the fact that a lot of the blending is lost – the actual painting has layers and layers and … more layers of glazes so it’s quite deep and rich.

Now, on another tack – can I just say, if I am going to look for someone to write reviews on my work then the job is yours! Thanks for such an indepth comment, I believe you must have really taken a proper look at this to come to your conclusion and I am very pleased : )

  • mattman

    mattman

I took as indepth a look as the web could afford.
Sadly that’s a far cry from standing in front of a work as you proved when you referred to blending.
The web is convenient but I’ll never forget the awesome difference between looking at Francis Bacon’s Study for Chimpanzee on the web compared to being enclosed by it when I stood in front of it.
