Well, I don’t know that I recall that far back anymore – as I did draw this during my thirty ninth summer here on this planet – influenced heavily (think steal!) by the Sir Jones at the Tate.

Ah, such a sad little story going on in this tangle. Maybe I was having another pity party…

Most likely!

Wow the detail is amazing. I really love the soft folds in the cloth. So very nicely drawn, I admire stuff like this.

  • Cynthia Lund T... replied

Oh, you are so kind. Thank you. I actually felt like I got lost in those folds and couldn’t find my way out! (But that’s the nice thing about them – they are pretty forgiving and no one would know if I have extras in there.)

THANKS for stopping by and thanks again for your kindness.

Its a wonderful story being told. The character on the right reminds me of ‘Circe’ from the John Waterhouse painting of the same name – its one of my favourites :)

Here is a painting I did from the same painting. The original is “The Beguiling of Merlin” by Edward Coley Burne Jones, who painted it in 1874. He was taught by Rossetti. Your drawing is really marvellous and don’t say you stole it – it is now in the Public Domain – free for grabs :).

  • Cynthia Lund T... replied

Whew. Glad I can’t be handcuffed for it any more. tehehee.
THANK YOU. Love your version! And thanks for the clarification so I can give a full nod to Sir Jones. Thanks!

You have the most beautiful face Cynthia! So pre-raphaelite! You should draw yourself more. And you found the frame in clip art? I love frames like that….you know like those gorgeous victorian frames. I use those ideas in my paintings every once in a while but it takes so long to paint the detail that I don’t use them often

  • Cynthia Lund T... replied

Tahnja, you are SO KIND. That’s not my face. I’m glad you think it is though. I’m giggling. I don’t really know who it was – a woman I found in a magazine that I altered. But anyway, thank you SO. You are dear.

These images amaze me. Is there any place I can view a significant number of originals? I find it hard to believe that the actual physical drawings are as photographic as these appear to be. I want to grab a lupe and examine the negatives for grain…

  • Cynthia Lund T... replied

Oh my. They are real. I have the lead on my outer palms to prove. But to answer your question, the originals are pretty scattered about. The majority of them live together in Manhattan with a single collector. (a lucky show) The next place would be my home. Some live in Denver, Santa Fe, Los Angeles – unfortunately (or fortunately) with private collectors.

I’m very flattered by your intensely provoking messages. Who are you?

I find myself revisiting this piece… the form of the bodies beneath the drapery… did you know that Leonardo and Michaelangelo were accused of performing human dissection when their work achieved too much realism?

  • Cynthia Lund T... replied 29 days ago

Fortunately, or unfortunately, I’ve never been accused of any dissection. tehehe.
So come on, you can tell me – did they??

  • Sfumato

By all accounts, they both engaged in dissection. Leo was brought before the church and made to stop… or face charges of necromancy. At the time dissection would have been quite illegal as well as dangerous due to the plentitude of infectious diseases.

Talk about commitment to one’s art!

  • Cynthia Lund T... replied 29 days ago

    Yikes!
Perhaps it’s better put – to be committed for one’s art!
