Heliotroped with Tattoo and Guest Poet
pencil embellished limited-edition print of pencil drawing “Heliotroped”
(The original drawing was done on standard white layout paper – in a spiral bound tablet – I had to draw it twice because as I went I smeared it and had to redefine the lines the second time out.)
See if you can find the poem that was tucked into this print and then sent to me anonymously.
Update: Aug. 2, 2009
I finally located the entire poem today. It was on the back of a Klimt postcard given to me at the same time the print was.
Here it is:
..........................................................................................................
“When I met her
she lived,
isolated,
on a narrow lane.
She had a wrought-iron fence
with a black rose growing through the gate,
locking it.
The rose was groomed beautifully.
The gate it seemed had been locked for years.
She would say little about the gate.
But she seemed very proud of the rose.
Eventually, she accepted a gift from me.
The gift was a white seed.
A white rose now grows, wild and resisting any grooming.
Still, she regards the rose with fear and awe.”

There is a hidden poem in there? What a fantastic idea, and makes this already outstanding work of art so much more engaging. Love your work.
Cynthia Lund T... replied
It was a gift – a very odd road to me. A print was sold to a poet I’m told, who then wrote the lines within and had it sent to me through the gallery. I then embellished the piece entirely by adding the tattoos. I really don’t know if I have the entire poem down. I will dig around to see if I can find it then I’ll post it.
And thanks so much Jo for your kind words.
I love it when the Artists of Color come around and enjoy.
So flattering.
My best to you…

This is insane Cynthia, you being serious there is a poem in here!!!
This outstanding work even without the poem, I can’t see, yet ; )
Brillant!!
Cynthia Lund T... replied
You know, I can barely find it myself! There are little sentences that pop out and I’m never sure if I have it in the correct order. (it was sent back to me anonymously) THANKS as always Spraven!

Wow! That is amazing… there is so much in there… & a poem!
I love it, beautiful, beautiful work!

Cynthia Lund T... replied
Thank you so much Sarah for your kind words and support! Yes, a poem tucked within the piece – the print was purchased by a poet, the poem added and then sent back to me. I still don’t know if I found it all. xx back, C.

Well I can’t find the poem either other than the odd swirly letter here and there…but I don’t care because it is an exquisite piece anyway. I love the intricacies and sideway eyes and the shy hands. Beautiful, delicate work!
Cynthia Lund T... replied
Sorry for the delay in response…
I am not sure if I have the whole thing figured out myself. With the lines written here and there, I never know if I’m reading them in the correct sequence. I like that about it though.
Thank you for your wonderful comments…
Bestest,
C.

Really like this one, so organic. Really impressive. How patient are you exactly?? You must be good at fishing…
Cynthia Lund T... replied
You just made me laugh out loud.
I am probably the least patient person I’ve ever known. I have tantrums when I can’t open a cereal box.
(Thank you Patrick!)

just FANTASTIC…....................and you say there is a poem somewhere in there??? LETTERS?? wow…I must admit…..I couldn’t find a single letter…....but I so much enjoyed seeing all the little details on the arms….and every else in the piece!!! WOW!
Cynthia Lund T... replied
Hello Jacqleen,
Yes, it is swirled around within the piece – lines tucked here and there. It’s hard to find even in the large original and I find myself wondering if I’ve found it all myself. I think I jotted it down somewhere and will post it if I can find it here in my studio.
It is a very special piece to me given the work and expense that went into it from the mystery poet.
Thank you for your wonderful enthusiasm and lovely note.
It means a lot to me…

A truly magnificent piece of artwork. One of the best pencil drawings I’ve seen.
Tempted to look for the poem now. :))
Cynthia Lund T... replied
Wow John – a giant thank you to you from me.
(And good luck! I need the original in front of me and then, maybe I can catch a line here or there. I should make a print highlighting the lines.)
Thanks again…
